Club Steward’s Review Meeting

Review Meeting held by DW with Mick Davies on 11th December.

November bar/court usage statistics attached as Appendix C.

(ref. 7.3) Membership Questionnaire – AO has indicated (see Club Captain’s Report) that canvassing members on a face to face basis may be a more appropriate means of determining best ways to increase court usage and Club revenue. JB requested that AO should explain how this approach is to be formalised so that the Committee can make an objective assessment of the results.

It was agreed that the use of a discussion board on the web site was neither technically feasible nor appropriate.

Review of current ban on Felix Frixou – AO has indicated that 1st team members are prepared to play against FF in away matches, but that this may not be an issue as FF has reportedly been involved in another ‘match incident’. JB to check with AO if 1st team wish to reconsider in light of the latter, and then inform DSRA accordingly. If appropriate JB will also note that the latest events would seem to vindicate the Repton Squash Club decision regarding the original incident.

APPENDIX A – CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Team Squash:

- 1st team - doing well, have so far won 5 out of 6 matches with an almost ever-present side, and lie in 2nd place in Division 2, with a 'crunch' match at home to 1st place Ashbourne tomorrow night.

- 2nd team - still doing well in Division 4 but have struggled recently due to injuries and lack of availability, which unfortunately led to the last match against Dragons being conceded at short notice. Should still be in a position to challenge for promotion in the 2nd half.

- 3rd team - sitting comfortably mid-table in Division 5. Unfortunately Patrick Griffiths sustained a long-term injury whilst playing for the team against Dragons recently.

- Repton 2 and 3 both made it through to the second round of the Knockout Cup, where they have drawn each other! The match is due to be played on 28th Dec.

Club Competitions:

- Handicap Time Tournament successfully held in November with a moderate turn-out. Played as mini-league format with winners and runners-up going through to Semi-Finals (to be played on SF night). Encouraging aspect was that the semi-finalists consist of lower-league and improving players, good to see them get involved and doing well in competitions. £2 entry collected from all participants by Mick on the night, to go towards Finals Night refreshments.

- Outline schedule for remaining competitions created and passed to George for comments, this is attached. 1st round draws to be done early January.

- Trophy situation for 2005/06 winners still ongoing - currently in hand, to be sorted before Xmas.

- Quote for honours boards update obtained from George, forwarded to John B and Dave W, attached.

- Photo boards still to be produced, apparently Graham Howkins has photos of both 2004/05 and 2005/06 winners, I will chase him up before Xmas to get this resolved.

Other:

- After I spoke to several established club members, it was felt that a questionnaire to members at this stage may not be the best way forward (apparently it has been tried before with mixed results). Canvassing members opinions may perhaps be better achieved on a face-to-face basis, or possibly via a discussion board on the website??

- No members of the 1st team squad has a particular problem if Felix is in the Duffield team when Repton play them in the 2nd half - it may not be an issue soon anyway as "allegedly" he has recently been involved in another 'incident' during a Derbyshire League match (I don't know the full details though).

APPENDIX B       REPTON SQUASH CLUB COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT REPORT

Junior Squash

  • I have only been able to attend 1 Friday night session (in a supervisory capacity) since previous report which was on 17th November and all fees donated to Children in Need.
  • George Baker and Alex Hillier attended the Duffield Grand Prix held on December 10th; both enjoyed the day with George Baker coming runner up in his group.
  • A 'round robin' league competitions is to be held on Friday 15th December for under 12s and under 16 age groups; attendance is reduced to a maximum of 6 for older group. Therefore not convinced that the Junior championship trophy, currently held by Elliott Coxon, should be awarded for the winner of this group.  Propose that an 'official' tournament(s) should be scheduled for March/April 2007 with appropriate advertising etc to encourage good entry.
  • Ladies Squash
    • A combination of my injury and family commitments of the other lady players has meant that the ladies team has struggled to maintain the standard of squash required for the Derbyshire league. Therefore we have decided to withdraw the team from the ladies league with immediate effect.
    • It is proposed that a regular ladies night is held on the second Monday of each month commencing Monday 8th January 2007 during which the ladies will have an opportunity to play each other, receive 'coaching' on match tactics as well as learn to mark games.
    • CW has offered to continue with her coaching services at the previously defined rates for those wishing to improve their playing technique.
    • A decision by the Committee is requested as regards availability and funding of the courts (2 @ 7.50pm and 2@ 8.30pm) for these activities.
  •
