Secretarial and Administration

(ref 3.1) (carried forward) AO agreed to take on the responsibility of collating and producing a membership list for internal distribution. AO has already printed copies – these are behind the bar for any member who wants one. AO is to keep this list up to date as new members join/existing members details change.

New Members

Current membership levels are as follows: 75 members, new since the last meeting are: Michael Pett and Nicky White (initially joined under the 3-month trial scheme, now paid up until September), Charlie Clay and Adam Armiger. A few enquiries have been made recently which may result in further new members.

Some of the regulars from the Bulls Head pub in Repton have expressed an interest in taking part in a squash night at the Club. Therefore the Committee have invited them to a special ‘Bulls Head’ night, with a view towards getting some ‘new blood’ through the doors, and possibly some membership sign-ups.

It was noted that a couple of ex-members had been playing recently despite not rejoining in September. SE to ask Lee Watson to chase this with the person concerned.

Other Membership Matters

A short discussion was centred around how to increase the membership level at the Club, considering the steps already tried. The conclusion was that we should be looking to continue advertising in the local area.

(ref 4.2.3) (carried forward) SE confirmed that he had collated all the questionnaires returned by the membership following the recent request for feedback. SE to compile responses and report back to the Committee.

In Lee’s absence there was nothing much to report. SE confirmed that Lee is still achieving good numbers for his Friday night junior coaching sessions.

Friendlies and Competitions

(ref 5.1.2) (carried forward) The possibility of organising friendly matches for the Juniors to play against Juniors from other clubs was raised. LW agreed to contact the school, and the 3 clubs in the area with Junior sections, about a potential event.

SE stated that he and IR had met with the School regarding the subject of finance. The School have agreed to pay the outstanding monies from Sandra Davies’ cleaning wages.

The School were also asked if they would accept partial responsibility for the costs of the planned reurbishment works. They agreed in principle and invited the Club to submit quotes for the works. SE has compiled some quotations and sent these to the School Bursar. We are awaiting a response.

Court Usage & Bar Takings

(ref 6.3.1) (carried forward) SE produced the Club’s financial figures for the last six months, which had been put together by IR. It was noted that, whilst there appeared to be a slight loss on the figures, there were a number of mitigating reasons for this. It was agreed that a truer picture of the Club’s finances would be gained by looking at them again after the next quarter.

Club and Team Squash

Team Squash Update

The Mens 1st and 2nd teams had a successful 1st half of the season. They were both able to field strong sides due to the influx of new players at the top of the rankings. This is having an effect on the 3rd team too, as they are currently challenging hard for promotion from Division 6, after recovering from a slow start.

The current tactic of using the strongest available players at the top of the 3rd team was highlighted, in case this may be having a negative effect on the morale of regular members of the team – as they are not always getting a game. SE agreed to take this up with some of the members affected and gauge their reaction.

Internal Leagues/Competitions

SE reviewed the first round of leagues since their re-introduction. The opinion was that there was enough interest there to keep the leagues going, as it gives new members a valuable source of games and contacts. SE to split the leagues into 3 this time and see how it goes.

AO confirmed that all competition dates and organisers have been arranged. Competition entry forms have been up on the notice board since November. The Committee resolved get as many people to sign up before the events begin. The date of Presidents Cup night is set for 10th February, with the semi-finalists going through to Semi-Finals night (20th April), with the Finals night the week after (27th).

(ref 7.2.3) (carried forward) A Club night was suggested in order to integrate new members. This will be run on a monthly basis (Tuesday nights), from 6:30pm onwards. Flat rate of £2 adults, £1 juniors. MA to organise.

Photo boards have now been updated and re-hung for the last 2 years. MA stated that the boards will be perpetually updated after each year’s competitions, with only the last 2 years being shown.

Any Other Business

At the next meeting it is hoped that we will be in a position to formulate a list of jobs based around the refurbishment plans. These can then be allocated. Volunteers will be required.

A Summer Social event was mooted, following the postponement of the similar event planned last year. It was agreed that the idea remains an excellent one in principle, but will require a great deal of commitment if it is going to be a success. This will be on the agenda in future meetings.

A brief discussion centred around the terms of the current cleaning contract within the Club. IR to take this forward.
